Why Doesn't My Skin Feel Like It Used To?

Since coming home from hospital, I've noticed just how much my skin has changed over the last couple of weeks.

Between dehydration, antibiotics and spending time indoors, it reminded me that our skin often reflects what's happening inside our bodies.

Recovery isn't just about how we feel, sometimes we can see it too.

Have you ever caught yourself looking in the mirror and wondering...

"When did my skin become so dry?"

Perhaps you've noticed your moisturiser doesn't seem to last as long.

Maybe your skin feels tighter after a shower.

Or perhaps those little fine lines seem more noticeable than they did a few years ago.

If you're over 40, or especially over 50, you're certainly not imagining it.

Our skin really does change.

But here's the reassuring part.

It's completely natural.

Your Skin Is Changing... Just Like the Rest of You

As we age, our skin gradually produces less oil.

For many women, this becomes even more noticeable around menopause as hormone levels change.

Our skin also loses collagen and elastin over time.

That means it doesn't hold onto moisture quite as well as it once did.

The result?

Dryness.

A feeling of tightness.

Fine lines becoming more noticeable.

Skin that simply feels... different.

The good news is that dry skin isn't something you simply have to accept.

Often, a few small changes can make a remarkable difference.

Healthy Skin Starts From Within

When people think about skincare, they often think about what they put on their skin.

Moisturisers.

Serums.

Creams.

And those things absolutely have their place.

But healthy skin also reflects what's happening inside our body.

Hydration.

Good nutrition.

Healthy fats.

Quality sleep.

Managing stress.

Even spending too much time in hot showers or harsh soaps can strip away the skin's natural protective oils.

It's all connected.

Be Kind to Your Skin

One thing I've learnt as I've grown older is that my skin doesn't need harsher products.

It needs kinder ones.

Gentle cleansing.

Consistent hydration.

Good-quality natural skincare.

Protection from the sun.

And perhaps most importantly...

Realistic expectations.

I've stopped chasing perfect skin.

Instead, I simply want healthy skin.

There's quite a difference.

Growing Older Doesn't Mean Giving Up

One of the things I love about the Luv Your Age philosophy is that we're not trying to look twenty-five forever.

We're simply trying to feel comfortable and confident in the skin we're in.

Healthy ageing isn't about hiding our years. It's about supporting our bodies as they change.

Our skin tells the story of our life.

The laughter.

The sunshine.

The challenges we've overcome.

I don't think that's something to hide.

I think it's something to care for.

A Few Simple Ways to Support Dry Skin

If your skin has become drier over the years, here are a few gentle habits that may help:

🌿 Drink plenty of water throughout the day.
🌿 Use a gentle cleanser that doesn't strip away natural oils.
🌿 Apply a quality moisturiser or facial serum while your skin is still slightly damp.
🌿 Include healthy fats and antioxidant-rich foods in your diet.
🌿 Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure.
🌿 Remember that consistency is far more important than expensive products.

Sometimes the smallest daily habits have the biggest impact.

I'd love to hear from you...

What's the biggest change you've noticed in your skin over the years?

Has it become drier?

More sensitive?

Or perhaps you've found something that's really helped?

I'd love to hear your experiences.
